Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Potter County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us or submit a message, we retain it as needed to respond. The communication remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers automatically receive routine technical details when a page loads, including:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is available
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device category and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic in the aggregate, such as popular pages and common exit points. You may block cookies through browser controls, though disabling them can change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Measuring which resources visitors use and where improvements are needed
- Routing a submitted query to the appropriate search partner
- Operating, maintaining, and improving page performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect inferred interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Potter County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes reference material about records held by Potter County courts, the jail and police agencies, the Pennsylvania State Police Central Repository, and the Pennsylvania State Police Megan's Law Public Website. The website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or dossiers about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside businesses supply the search tools shown on certain pages. Their own privacy terms govern anything submitted through those tools. We do not control a partner's storage, use, or disclosure rules, so review the provider's policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Potter County offices, Pennsylvania court portals, state agencies, legal resources, and outside search providers. Once you leave this website, the destination's privacy policy controls. Check its terms before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may measure activity across websites to select ads. That tracking is performed through their systems and policies.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to the following recipients when needed for the stated functions:
- Government or law-enforcement authorities responding to a valid legal demand
- Advertising networks that deliver ads
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process a query you choose to submit
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security measures are used to protect collected information. No internet service can guarantee perfect protection, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access or another security incident will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor provided personal information, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Your rights can depend on where you live and on the data involved. Pennsylvania's Criminal History Record Information Act, 18 Pa.C.S. Chapter 91, governs the collection, maintenance, and dissemination of Pennsylvania criminal history information. The Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law, 65 P.S. §§ 67.101–67.3104, governs requests to public agencies, not private website data. For information we control, you may:
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Request deletion of information associated with you
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request access to information we hold about you
